O Siyam: Aboriginal Art Inspired by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

  SKU Number: 9780470161548

“O siyam” is a traditional greeting of many Aboriginal peoples, a message of welcome and respect that perfectly captures the spirit behind the artworks by First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists that will grace the venues of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games.

O Siyam is the official volume showcasing these artworks and telling the stories behind the art and artists that are featured at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The glorious cultural exhibits at the Games venues will display works by established and well-known artists, such as master carver Tim Paul, Colleen Cutschall (painter/sculptor), Jason Baerg (installation artist/painter), Arlene Christmas (painter), Andrew Qappik (print/painting) and dozens of others. Many of the installations will be on permanent display following the 2010 Winter Games.

More than 100 full-colour images have been selected to highlight the works and offer unique views of the artists during their creative processes. Detailed text and captions provide background about the philosophies, biographies and techniques of the many artists, as well as specific information about the artworks. Welcome to one of the most extensive displays of Aboriginal art ever mounted in Canada!
