May 3, 2006
The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) welcomed the City of Vancouver’s appointment of Jeff Mooney to VANOC’s board on Tuesday and thanked Marion Lay for her two and a half years of volunteer service to the Board.
Mr. Mooney replaces Marion Lay, who has resigned from the VANOC Board as one of two representatives appointed by the City of Vancouver. The Organizing Committee would like to thank Marion Lay not only for her efforts to help bring the 2010 Games to Vancouver, but also for her contribution and hard work towards the development and evolution of the project. Marion will continue to contribute to the success of the Games through the 2010 Legacies Now society. The other City representative is Vancouver City Manager Judy Rogers.
A talented and highly respected Vancouver business leader who believes strongly in corporate responsibility and who possesses an excellent community service record, Mr. Mooney is a dynamic and welcome addition to the Vancouver 2010 team.
“Jeff is an outstanding leader who effectively guided his business and community interests to great success, while demonstrating corporate and personal values that match our own,” said Jack Poole, Chairman of the VANOC Board of Directors. “We look forward to his contributions and fresh perspective on the many opportunities and challenges offered by this complex project as we strive to deliver an extraordinary Olympic and Paralympic experience with lasting legacies.”
VANOC is guided by a 20-member board of directors nominated by the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and local First Nations.
