Testing successfully completed at biathlon sport event
The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) successfully completed its operational testing today at the e.on Ruhrgas IBU World Cup Biathlon which ran from March 11 to 15. VANOC staff tested field of play and Games-time operations, in addition to training potential Games-time volunteers, while spectators enjoyed exciting competition that combines cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship. This was the first World Cup event at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games venue in the Callaghan Valley. >>>
Testing successfully completed at Paralympic cross-country and biathlon sport event
The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) successfully completed its operational testing today at the 2009 IPC Biathlon and Cross-Country World Cup which ran from March 4 to 7. While enthusiastic fans made their way to Whistler Olympic/Paralympic Park to cheer on the world’s best Paralympic cross-country and biathlon athletes, VANOC staff tested field of play and Games-time operations, in addition to training potential Games-time volunteers. The venue will also host the upcoming IBU World Cup Biathlon from March 11 to 15. >>>
In Their Words: Kati Wilhelm
Biathlete Katarina (Kati) Wilhelm of Schmalkalden, Germany is a sergeant in the German Armed Forces. She is a five-time biathlon World Champion. Wilhelm was a member of the German cross-country ski team at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games, but upon discovering the sport of biathlon in 1999, Wilhelm achieved nearly instant success. At the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games she was the most decorated female biathlete, winning a silver medal in the 10-kilometre pursuit, and gold medals in the 7.5-kilometre sprint and 4 x 6-kilometre relay. Wilhelm carried the German flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games where she won one gold and two silver medals. >>>
