Youth Participation Program

Were you born between September 2, 1989 and December 31, 1994 and will be between the ages of 15 and 19 by the end of this year? Do you live in the Sea to Sky corridor (Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton/Mt Currie) or have accommodations secured in this area at Games time? If the answer is yes to both questions, this could be your chance to get involved!

How much time can you expect to commit?

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games are being held from February 12 to 28, 2010 and we are looking for individuals who are able to participate during this period. All participants must also complete training leading up to the Games. Additionally, some roles will require additional time commitments prior to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which will be discussed with you during your training.

What roles are available?

Potential opportunities include participating as a Slipper for Alpine or Nordic sports. There are also roles available in Event Services and in the Olympic and Paralympic Village Whistler (home of the athletes).

Olympic and Paralympic Village
Put your customer service experience to work in one of the most dynamic environments of the Games — the Olympic and Paralympic Village. Those who work in the village may help village officials and athletes when they arrive, deliver hotel items to guests’ rooms, answer guests’ questions about schedules, locate activities and events in and around the village, and provide them with transportation details and directions to off-site venues.

Along with your passion for customer service, you’ll need to have excellent communication skills, be able to think on your feet and maintain a professional manner.

Event Services
Event Services Hosts are often the first and last faces spectators see during their Olympic and Paralympic experience. Hosts act as greeters, marshals, ticket-takers, and ushers. If you have strong customer service and communication skills and enjoy working in a team, this may be the right role for you.

Vancouver Opportunities

Performers required for 2010 Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  Fitness and enthusiasm are all you need .  Apply at www.vancouver2010.com/ceremonies.  Must be 17 years or older to apply.

How do I apply?

Visit www.vancouver2010.com or www.workopolis.com and complete an application form. On the last page of your application form, there is a field on the bottom right side that says ‘for office use only’. In this field, type in the code YPNNGP04, which will identify you as being an applicant for the Youth Participation Program?

Please note that throughout the application it will note that the age for our volunteers is 19. Please disregard this age as you are applying through our Youth Participation Program, which invites those between 15 and 19 to be a part of the Games.

Once we have received your application, your experience, skills and interests will be matched to our needs to determine appropriate roles. Should you be selected, you will be contacted to begin the process, which includes a phone screen (for some roles), a face to face interview, training and security clearance. Please note that as part of the security clearance process, you will be asked to present one piece of legal identification (driver’s license, BC ID, a status card or passport).
