Help the Games be sustainable

Everyone has a role to play… here are some key strategies for you to consider when you attend the 2010 Winter Games to help us meet our sustainability objectives:

  • Choose an alternate mode of transportation to get around, whether you’re attending Games events or moving about the region. Lots of options – including expanded public transit, pedestrian and cycling routes and rideshare/carpool programs – are available. Learn more about transportation options for the Games.
  • Practice the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) using the bins provided at all Games venues.
  • Take only what you need. In order to reduce your need for paper guides as much as possible, Vancouver2010.com will feature all the information you need to enjoy the 2010 Winter Games experience.
  • Use travel mugs (reusable mugs) instead of disposable cups wherever possible. You can find many varieties at the Olympic Store! Visit vancouver2010.com/store.
  • Respect venue communities and their residents: pay attention to parking and traffic restrictions, dispose of recyclables and garbage appropriately, limit noise levels on residential streets, enjoy the diversity of both people and environment that the host region offers.
  • Calculate your carbon footprint, try to reduce it as much as possible, then purchase offsets for any remaining carbon emissions. Air travel is the single biggest contributor to our Games time carbon emissions and the biggest part of your carbon footprint.
