The Edward Curtis Project
Photo by Tim Matheson and Rita Leistner.
Depressed and estranged from her family, a Métis journalist named Angeline finds herself slipping from existence—a situation mirrored in a turn-of-the-century book she finds called The Vanishing Indian. In The Edward Curtis Project, Angeline finds herself face-to-face with the controversial photographer obsessed with capturing the Indian way of life he thought was dying out. The juxtaposition of Curtis’s romantic photos with today’s realistic renderings challenges them both to face the cost of seeing.
