Richmond

Richmond, British Columbia (BC) is a thriving multicultural city of just over 188,000 people, situated at the confluence of the Fraser River and the Pacific Ocean, 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Its enviable blend of cosmopolitan energy and pristine natural splendour combine to make it an amazing place to live, work, visit or play.

As an international crossroads, an emerging economic centre of the Asia-Pacific region and one of Canada’s most culturally diverse cities, Richmond is ideally suited to be an official Venue City for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and to welcome the world.

Visitors to this island city are blessed with a plethora of activities and adventures, from whale watching to window shopping. A proud maritime past is preserved in the Historic Fishing Village of Steveston, while the city’s multicultural side is reflected in the bustling Golden Village area, theatres, resort casinos and acclaimed restaurants. Visit tourismrichmond.com for more visitor information about Richmond, BC.

Richmond’s residents enjoy a clean, accessible city boasting the perfect combination of modern conveniences and natural green spaces. Its mild climate means residents and visitors can golf year-round. The city also receives 30 per cent less rain than Vancouver. Richmond is truly one of the most unique cities in Canada. There are over 40 kilometres of waterfront trails and boardwalks to choose from, for all ages and abilities. Richmond’s 500-plus hectares of parks have won international awards for sustainable and innovative design.

Richmond is close to both downtown Vancouver and the United States. As the home of Vancouver International Airport, Richmond is a major transportation centre and premier gateway between North America and Asia, and it’s just minutes by freeway from the US/Canada Border. The new Canada Line rapid transit system becomes operation in 2009, linking Richmond city centre with YVR and downtown Vancouver.
