Manitoba

Welcome to the Province of Manitoba’s web page, part of vancouver2010.com, the website of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. As a Contributing Province of the 2010 Winter Games, Manitoba is excited to showcase to the world the many advantages the province has to offer.

Manitoba's rich history of diverse cultures, varied climates and central location has instilled a unique energy that radiates from the hearts and minds of our people. From the birthplace of many successful artists, musicians, entrepreneurs and athletes who compete on the world stage, to the natural resources that fuel our economy, Manitoba is a wellspring of energy.

Manitoba will also contribute towards the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, which will showcase a bold spectrum of popular and fine arts performances and exhibitions from a series of creators from across the country.

The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will see the unveiling of Manitoba House, a pavilion featuring Manitoba’s world-renowned expertise in green technology.

Manitoba is a great place to live and raise a family — with a community that shares the values of cultural diversity.  The province offers affordable housing and living costs, rich cultural opportunities and an excellent education system. Our forests, lakes and beaches feature unlimited recreational opportunities for everyone to enjoy.

As well, Manitoba continues to be a world leader in addressing climate change and developing clean energy.  Our abundant, clean and renewable hydro resources are now complemented by one of Canada’s largest wind farms. On a per-capita basis, Manitoba installs geothermal systems at more than three times the Canadian average. Research and development is also ongoing in renewable energy projects such as biofuels and hydrogen.

Manitoba Means Business— Manitoba is a vibrant location for business with an enviable quality of life that has become the destination of choice for skilled workers and entrepreneurs from around the world, with recent net international migration to the province reaching 20-year highs.

Manitoba’s competitive advantages include affordable business costs, a geographically central location with excellent market access, leading-edge transportation and communications networks, a skilled and productive workforce and the can-do attitude of business and labour.  Successive KPMG studies have shown that Manitoba has some of the lowest overall business costs in the North American Midwest. Manitoba’s high ranking was merited due to the numerous financial assistance programs, government grants and tax incentives available for qualified applicants.

Tourism— Manitoba has a diverse landscape, a unique history and is one of the few regions in the world with four distinct seasons. The province has eight urban, rural and northern regions which can be identified by their distinctive landforms and waterways, and is also home to seven distinct groups of Aboriginal Peoples.

Visitors may enjoy the incredible beauty of parks and natural areas, or see wildlife including polar bears and beluga whales located in Churchill.

Manitoba’s adventure and ecotourism choices include kayaking and canoeing, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling or even birding. The province also offers world-class fishing on 100,000 lakes.

Come experience Manitoba’s spirited energy first-hand and you’ll understand why

Manitoba is an ideal place to live, work and invest.
