Metro Vancouver is a regional district in British Columbia that covers a distance of 96 km, made up of 2.1 million people in more than 20 municipalities, including the Vancouver 2010 Venue Cities of Richmond, Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver (Cypress Mountain). View a map of Metro Vancouver.
Whistler, home of the mountain venues, is less than three hours north of downtown Vancouver and Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Spectators will be able to get there by travelling along the scenic Sea to Sky Highway. View a map of Whistler.
Below is an overview of transportation options within the Sea to Sky corridor that stretches from Metro Vancouver to Whistler. To assist you in creating your transportation plan, click on a map of all the venues to see where they are in relation to one another. Beginning in the fall of 2009, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) will provide detailed information on these pages to help you reach the venues, including public transportation modes, routes and distances.
Public Transportation
Metro Vancouver is served by TransLink, which operates an integrated transportation system of buses, the SeaBus, the West Coast Express commuter rail and the SkyTrain automated rapid transit system. The SkyTrain service will expand in November 2009 to include the new 16-station, 19 km Canada Line linking Vancouver with Richmond and YVR. The Canada Line will connect with the existing Expo and Millennium SkyTrain lines, the West Coast Express, and the SeaBus at Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver. A great benefit of the Canada Line is that you will be able to board at the YVR-Airport station and be whisked to downtown Vancouver in 25 minutes. Definitely the fastest way to go! Click here for information on TransLink services, accessibility and commuting options.
You will be able to get around Whistler on the Whistler and Valley Express (WAVE) transit system. Click here for information on using WAVE buses, including accessible services and travelling with ski and snowboard gear.
