EPCOR Joins Vancouver 2010 in Support of Canadian athletes

Oct 16, 2006

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is pleased to welcome a new member to its team – EPCOR Utilities Inc.

EPCOR today becomes an Official Supplier to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the category of Water Management. EPCOR’s sponsorship will contribute to VANOC’s successful staging of the Games, and include a major focus on supporting Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The partnership will include Official Supplier rights to the Canadian Olympic Team for the Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, and London 2012 Games.

EPCOR will continue its proud tradition of supporting the national Gold Medal Plates Dinner Series which contributes to the overall fundraising efforts of the Own the Podium 2010 initiative, and the Canadian Olympic Committee’s recently launched Road to Excellence summer sport initiative.

“Our involvement with the 2010 Winter Games and the Canadian Olympic Team is an exciting extension of the commitment EPCOR has made to this country’s elite and aspiring athletes, and their quest to reach the medal podium. We stand behind them every step of the way,” said Don Lowry, EPCOR President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Canada’s Olympians are incredible role models for young people and a source of inspiration for all of us,” continued Lowry. “It is their pursuit of excellence and peak performance that EPCOR shares and seeks to inspire and support in communities across the nation.”

“Thanks to EPCOR’s ongoing support of amateur sport in Canada, Canadian athletes are one step closer to unprecedented success in 2010,” said John Furlong, VANOC Chief Executive Officer. “A large part of our success in 2010 will directly relate to the performance of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes. EPCOR’s commitment to Canadian athletes is an example of how Canadian companies can contribute to the overall success of the Games in 2010.”

EPCOR Utilities Inc. builds, owns and operates power plants, electrical transmission and distribution networks, water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure in Alberta, British Columbia/U.S Pacific Northwest and Ontario/U.S Northeast. EPCOR has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 employers for seven consecutive years, and is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. EPCOR’s web site is www.epcor.ca

VANOC is responsible for the planning, organizing, financing and staging of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games in 2010. The 2010 Olympic Winter Games will be staged in Vancouver and Whistler from February 12 to 28, 2010. Whistler and Vancouver will host the Paralympic Winter Games from March 12 to 21, 2010.
