The graphic identity and pictograms for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are unveiled today on the new and expanded version of vancouver2010.com.
For athletes, spectators, and Games enthusiasts around the world, the graphic identity communicates the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games, telling its story in the universal language of design. The Vancouver 2010 graphic identity features many illustrated textures drawn from Canada’s natural and urban environments as well as its rich cultural diversity. All creative elements of the graphic identity were developed by VANOC’s in-house design team, with one key texture created by local aboriginal artist Xwa lack tun.

Twenty-four sport pictograms and a series of sport illustrations for the 2010 Winter Games are also revealed today. Created by Dutch illustrator Irene Jacobs of I’m JAC Design, the pictograms depict the 2010 Winter Games sports using a simplified silhouette with small details depicting the dynamism of the athlete in motion.
“The sport illustrations bring the athletes to life in a way that’s never been done before,“ said Leo Obstbaum, VANOC director of design. “We were inspired by everything from Canadian art to comic book heroes to the graphic style of some of the edgier sports equipment and fashion. Irene Jacobs translated this to detailed illustrations which capture the intensity, emotion and dynamics of each sport and truly celebrate the athlete.“
