Beijing has been an amazing experience. As you arrive in the city you are greeted by architecture that is pure art. Whether it is the old hutongs or the surreal-looking "water cube”, as a visitor I’m constantly looking around for the cameras and thinking I must be on a movie set.

China has developed a landscape that instantly creates a feeling of celebration. No fireworks needed! The volunteers at the venues have been well trained and are very welcoming. And from the airport to the Olympic Village they all seem genuinely happy to be meeting, greeting, validating accreditation, screening luggage or directing people to transport. This is also true of most people living in Beijing.

More often than not, if I stop to look at my map, a local resident will ask in English if they can help me find my way. They are excited to practice their English, provide directions and ask us where we are from.

From the markets to the parks and the downtown lights, a stroll through this city at any time of year would leave a visitor with the impression that there is something special happening. The excitement of the Games has captivated the city, and I can't help but feel that Beijing will have that festival atmosphere for the other 11 months of the year. Right now rather than just a feeling in the air it’s a loud cheer in Beijing.
