Vancouver 2010 Graphic Identity

Graphic Identity

The Host Country of every Olympic and Paralympic Games tells a unique story of culture and imagination through design and artistry. The Vancouver 2010 graphic identity seeks to unify and beautify the Games with a consistent look and feel throughout all its environments and communications. It will also allow VANOC to leave a mark in memories and in photos. Seen on the design of vancouver2010.com, brochures and publications, merchandise and uniforms, the graphic identity elements will eventually appear on buildings, street signs, banners and venues, dressing the city and venues in colour during Games time.

Canada’s many cultures merge to offer fresh ideas and possibilities. The country’s multiculturalism inspires Vancouver 2010 to portray transformation and fusion as a major theme within the graphic identity. It also represents balance and connections between natural and urban environments, reflecting how Canadians live in and contribute to both surroundings.

Inspired by the dynamic energy of Vancouver, Whistler and Canada, Vancouver 2010 imagery creates a space where nature and culture transform and grow — like the power, speed and spirit of the athletes. Design representations of water and vegetation are incorporated frequently and serve as a symbol of nature’s nourishing and rejuvenating powers. Emotive, dynamic athlete imagery captures the heroism and beauty of sport.

The Vancouver 2010 imagery is progressive and youthful, conveying Canada’s personality and adventurous spirit.

Image and Icons

The Vancouver 2010 story will be told by many ambassadors, and in many languages, including the universal language of design.

Olympic and Paralympic Games designs have a long tradition of creativity and excellence. Each Games creates its own imagery and icons to present a unique story and personality to the world. From the emblems to the torch to the medals, Olympic and Paralympic design elements showcase the values and spirit of the Games and the Host Country.

The Vancouver 2010 imagery and icons reflect the many faces of Canada’s Games — its warm, welcoming spirit and its celebration of cultural diversity.
