The Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad

We consulted with over 200 different arts and cultural organizations to develop our Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad program. Cultural Olympiad 2008 will launch the first of three annual multi-disciplinary festivals through co-presenting partnerships with 60 different arts and cultural organizations on 79 unique projects.

Representing an excellent cross-section of our highly diverse creative community, Cultural Olympiad 2008 will provide something for everyone. It will be a celebration of music, dance, visual art, theatre and multi-media that will encompass 300 performances and 10 exhibitions. Some shows will be free of charge, others will require tickets.

The creative works presented will paint a picture of contemporary Canada as a rapidly evolving society that embraces difference and thrives through change and experience. The roles played by artists, storytellers and cultural leaders on fostering awareness of local and global sustainability challenges will be explored. We will continue to work closely with the community as we build the scope and scale of Cultural Olympiad 2009 and 2010.

We have launched /EDU, an online, interactive bilingual e-magazine and portal to provide education resources in the areas of sport, culture, and sustainability. Education programs will tell stories and include interactive ways to engage teachers and students (in every province and territory) to participate in the Vancouver 2010 experience, as well as showcase classroom and community activities and success.
