Inner-City Recommendations

The ICI Partners convened community advisory groups to provide recommendations on two of the highest-profile inner-city commitments from a legacy perspective: those related to housing and those related to recreation and sport. Recommendations from the ICI Recreation and Sport Table will be completed in 2008.

After convening a diverse group of organizations representing inner-city residents, community organizations and non-market housing providers, in March 2007 the ICI Housing Table issued 24 recommendations. The recommendations can be found online at www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/commsvcs/housing/pdf/icihousingtablemar07.pdf. Though not binding, many of the recommendations were consistent with emerging public policy directions aimed at building new social housing stock; acquiring existing buildings to protect affordable housing in the face of escalating real estate value; and providing additional services and support to address the special needs of individuals with addictions, mental illness and other medical conditions.

The ICI Partners have since replied to the ICI Housing Table recommendations with a joint response that included a summary of new social housing units committed to since the Olympic bid was won in 2003. It can be found at www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/olympics/social_legacies.htm.
