Volunteers: An Integral Part of Our Workforce
VANOC’s Pre-Games Volunteer Program was established in
March 2006 to recruit volunteers. Motivated primarily by civic
pride and the desire to contribute to the 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games, our pre-Games volunteer team grew to 130
by July 31, 2007. This group joined an existing core of 20
volunteers who have represented VANOC at our Vancouver 2010
Information Centre in Whistler since the bid phase. In addition,
the VANOC Board of Directors is made up of 20 volunteers and the
Board Advisory Committee on Sustainability Performance is made up
of 13 volunteers, bringing the total volunteer count to 183 as of
July 31, 2007.
Our pre-Games volunteers are an important part of our team because they take on meaningful roles across the organization. They assist with a variety of tasks, such as supporting The Olympic Store, driving dignitaries to their destinations or scheduling other volunteers for our first Sport Event (Alpine World Cup).
