Liaising with Business and Labour
We have initiated dialogues with organized labour, business and
government on labour stability during the pre-Games and Games
periods. This includes meeting on an ad hoc basis to discuss issues
of mutual interest with the BC Federation of Labour, the Province
of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver and the business
community (as represented by the BC Chamber of Commerce, the Retail
Council of Canada and the Business Council of BC). VANOC has also
met with representatives from the University of British Columbia,
General Motors Place, BC Place Stadium, the Vancouver International
Airport, the City of Vancouver, the City of Richmond and the
Pacific National Exhibition to review collective bargaining
relevant to Games operations.
We monitored 95 collective agreements that cover operations potentially affecting the Games. A total of 34 of 95 agreements were settled beyond 2010, and 61 continue to be monitored going forward. Periodically, we have also met with representatives from business and organized labour. Both of these processes will continue through the life of the Games.
The VANOC workforce is not unionized.
