Restoration
Restoration —
Conduct restoration of disturbed areas where possible during
construction phase (such as re-vegetation of soils along roadsides)
and where appropriate and possible identify ways to restore habitat
once the Games end.
Throughout the venue construction phase, VANOC has been working to restore disturbed habitat, where affecting habitat areas has been unavoidable. At Whistler Olympic Park, for example, various areas used for temporary purposes will be restored, post Games, to a natural state. We are also looking for opportunities to contribute to habitat restoration in other areas to offset any effects at venues. For instance, VANOC provided large stumps and root wads, salvaged during site clearing at mountain venues, to regional fish habitat restoration projects. Read Closing the Loop on Wood Waste to find out about innovations applied to wood waste reuse at the Whistler Olympic Park site for re-vegetation and erosion control.
