WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Physicians, chiropractors, massage therapists, physiotherapists,
athletic therapists and all sports medicine specialists. This
multi-disciplinary course will both educate medical personnel in
their general day-to-day practices and provide information relevant
to volunteer personnel required for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games.
This two-day course will provide an introduction and overview of key medical, therapy and performance-related issues for sports included in the 2010 Winter Games. Each sport will be discussed in terms of sport-specific physiological and physical demands, the epidemiology, mechanisms and prevention of common injuries; and the key medical and therapy considerations for the response, acute management and treatment of injured sport athletes. Each of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic sports will be covered by an interdisciplinary team of health care professionals including physicians, physiotherapists, athletic therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists and others.
The course format will be a full-day plenary on Saturday. Sunday morning will include a short general plenary followed by two plenary streams; one focusing on Olympic athletes and one focusing on Paralympic athletes. Sunday afternoon’s format will be rotating workshops. Each registrant will rotate through 3 of 10 workshops and the sessions will close with a final group plenary.
