The
Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois
et francophone recognizes the success of Canadian cinema,
celebrating the diversity and talent of our artists. Approximately
50 films are screened, including many Genie and Jutra award
nominees that were presented in Vancouver and elsewhere. Attend the
screenings of recent Quebec productions and enjoy a selection of
five recent French films that illustrate the real dynamism of
French cinema today. Also, television producers from around the
world take part in a special presentation titled
“Input 2008,” featuring programs that break
new ground by being innovative, original, courageous, experimental,
unusual, controversial and imaginative in their use of familiar or
new technologies. Unique documentaries and a large selection of
films for the whole family round out the program.
Special school matinée screenings provide ideal
opportunities to foster the link with the francophone community via
the presentation of top quality films.
The theatre lobby displays the works of eight artists, including
stone sculptors Danielle Hébert, Sylvie Godin and
Réto Marti, a textile installation by Diane Roy, a
multimedia project by Micheline Barette, a glass installation by
Lorraine Fortin, photographs by Daniel Royer and ceramics by Janaki
Larsen. Also, expect some surprising encounters with the
Jazz from the Movies live music shows, featuring musicians
involved with the New Orchestra Workshop.
