Since its first concert in January 2003, the Turning Point
Ensemble has been building a repertoire of outstanding new
compositions by British Columbia’s leading composers.
The international quality of music composed in BC is a too well
kept secret. Now in a single dynamic program –
BC Concentrate – the Turning Point Ensemble
presents second performances of music by BC composers Rudolf
Komorous, John Korsrud, Jocelyn Morlock, Bradshaw Pack, Marcus
Goddard and Owen Underhill. The premieres of these compositions
elicited the following comments from critics of
The Globe and Mail,
Vancouver Sun and
The Georgia Straight – “the best
piece on the program . . . a piece that hurtles with a physics of
its own” – “ Strange
Sphere . . .flits in wacky homage to Thelonious
Monk” – “an
ambitious piece contrasting dance riffs, foggy washes of sound, and
a network of quotations.” –
“fast-paced and restless”
– “the night’s
energetic apogee.” Also featured as soloists
with the ensemble are Turning Point Ensemble clarinetist
François Houle and pianist Jane Hayes. Come and
celebrate top-notch music by BC composers played by an ensemble
that is quickly garnering a national reputation for excellence and
dedication in performance.
