Chinese New Year Celebration

This ever-popular family event features a free concert stage as part of the Chinese New Year celebration in the courtyard adjacent to the Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The stage is a new concept for 2008, focusing on traditional and contemporary concerts of Asian music. The program is curated by Silk Road Music, a professional ensemble that has been touring since 1991. Their last two CDs have each won a West Coast Music Award, and Endless was nominated for a Juno Award. Silk Road Music combines traditional techniques, western harmonies and a great understanding of world folklore. Their exciting live performances bring joy and appreciation to children and adults, transporting them from Occident to Orient and giving a refreshing look at Chinese culture today.

The stage is part of creating a street fair atmosphere that the audience can attend both before and after the Chinese New Year parade. There will also be folk dancing, red envelopes, face painting and cross-cultural programming inviting multicultural Vancouver to celebrate Chinese New Year with a world vision.
